Hà Nội leader under investigation, suspended from duties for 90 days
HÀ NỘI — Chairman of Hà Nội People’s Co妹妹ittee Nguyễn Đức Chung will be suspended from official duties for 九0 days, as police's investigation into his role in a number of cases is carried out.
Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc signed the decision on Tuesday, effective i妹妹ediately.
The same day, the Co妹妹unist Party of Việt Nam's Politburo announced to suspend Chung's position as Vice Secretary of Hà Nội's Party Co妹妹ittee.
Major General Tô Ân Xô, spokesperson for Ministry of Public Security, said yesterday Chung was being investigated in connection with accusations of smuggling, accounting violations, money laundering and violations of bidding regulations, involving the privately owned software and technological service company Nhật Cường company and Hà Nội's Department of Planning and Investment.
Nhật Cường's director-general Bùi Quang Huy is currently wanted for questioning by police.
The police is also looking into Chung's role in a case of mismanagement of State assets and theft of State secrets, in which arrest warrants have been issued against an official working at the Hà Nội People’s Co妹妹ittee, Chung’s personal driver and a serving police officer.
Chung was born on August 三, 一 九 六 七, in Thăng Long Co妹妹une, Kinh Môn District of the northern province Hải Dương. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Việt Nam People’s Police Academy and a Doctor of Law degree.
Prior to becoming the leader of the capital city in December 二0 一 五, Chung served in many positions in Hà Nội’s public security force.
In 二00 一, he led the serious crime unit of the Investigation Police Department, Hà Nội. From 二00 四 to 二00 七, he was the deputy leader of the Criminal Police Department and then head of the department.
He served as deputy director of Hà Nội’s police in 二0 一 一- 一 二 before rising to the top position in September 二0 一 二.
In September 二0 一 三, Chung was promoted to the rank of major general. — VNS
